Day of the Grasshopper
The US Department of Agriculture is predicting one of the worst outbreaks of grasshoppers all across Montana in the last 30 years. Now this may be bad for the ranchers and farmers but it is undeniably good for trout and trout fisherman. The numbers of the predicted “infestation” of grasshoppers is absolutely astounding so expect hoppers to come early and last late into the season this year. As snowpack across the state is looking lower than normal the months of August and early September are usually suspect for anglers wanting to fish the waters of Montana but with the amount of grasshoppers on the way these time periods are looking incredible. Big hairy, foamy dries for months? How can you resist?Wall Street Journal Article
